Please note: There is no fighting or “free sparring” in any of our regularly scheduled classes.

OUR PROGRAMS

LITTLE KARATEKA 1 (Age 3-8)

[Beginners Class] This group focuses on beginners (white belts) and is a chance for younger students to discover whether they enjoy karate. This group works on the following:

  • Developmental topics including: setting & achieving goals (belt stripes); listening to instructions; following rules; completing tasks; counting; following.
  • Basic fitness such as: sit-ups; push-ups; jumping jacks; etc..
  • Shorin-ryu karate skills such as: front punch; front kick; front stance; basic blocking; simple formal exercises (kata); simple self defense concepts and more.

The objective of this class is to prepare participants for the yellow belt test. We use a system of belt stripes to benchmark student's progress and preparation for their test. At the end of each month, we do a Monthly Review where each students shows the instructor what they have learned and stripes are awarded as earned. Once the child has achieved the required stripes, the yellow belt exam is scheduled.

LITTLE KARATEKA 2 (Age 3-8)

[Yellow belts +] Having completed LITTLE KARATEKA 1 and achieved their yellow belt, participants in this class continue to learn about Shorin-ryu Karate. Students will be engage in basic conditioning and exercises, learn fundamental aspects of Shorin-ryu Karate. Students in this program are introduced to rote learning and the memorization of kata. There are no games in this class. Participants are kept busy for the entire 45 minute class.

JUNIOR KARATE KIDS 1 (Age 8-17)

[Beginners Class] White to blue belts. This group is faster paced and more demanding than the LITTLE KARATEKA groups. This program is memory intensive, highly disciplined and the participants are encouraged to step up. Participants work on the following:

  • Emphasis is on the memorization, practice, development and improvement of kata.
  • Participants are introduced to structured partner work.
  • This age group practices weapons: kon and nunchaku.

The objective of this program is to prepare the students for an advanced program.

ADVANCED KARATE KIDS

[Blue belts +] Kids in the advanced karate program have demonstrated a commitment to attendance and above average training discipline.

DAYTIME ADULTS

[Baginners welcome - No experience necessary] Get your black belt while the kids are in school! Everyone moves at their own pace. Shorin-ryu Karate is body-friendly and suitable for all ages of adults, including seniors. It is specifically designed to promote systemic health and fitness while promoting mental focus and discipline.The average age of this group tends to be 40+ so the pace is relaxed but challenging.

JUNIOR ADULTS (Age 13+)

[Beginners class - No experience necessary] Shorin-ryu Karate is body-friendly and suitable for all ages of adults, including seniors. It is specifically designed to promote systemic health and wellness while promoting mental focus and discipline.

  • Learn Shorin-ryu Karate, the oldest karate system.
  • Learn Okinawan weapons, starting with the quarter staff (kon).
  • Emphasis on improving fitnesses and wellness.

New students progress at their own pace.
